Whale Watching

Whale Watching was a high light of the trip. It was one of the most dynamics and adventurous activities. Riding with Captain Tom, a biologist and the owner of Ocean Explorations Whale Cruises (Or I remember as Zodiac). I enjoyed every single minute at the speed boat even though it was too quite bumpy......

As far as I remember, there were two boat ride sections everyday during summer and autumn. One in the morning and one in the afternoon. A fireman-like uniform was given to each boat rider to minimize the damage from caused by the sea and the wind. I think I look kool with the uniform even it seems a little bulky. Anyway, I strong suggest that riders bring only one camera and one lenses with them for the shooting whale pictures. On the boat, one may not able to change lenses. A telephoto lenses such as a 80-200mm or a28-200 willl be just perfect. At one moment, we were only 10 feet away from a whale. Talkin about adventures, I truly whale watching was only of those.

Captain Tom, a fun dude to ride a speed boat with, was quite humorous. One time, I asked him if the whale that we were watching ate people. He replied" only on Wednesday! Well, that was a wednesday!

The reason we chose Ocean Explorations rather than others was its speed and size. I remember there were two time we saw at least two whales up on the water surface breathing. We had choice to pick which one to see. We can get there see them up close before others show up. One time, I pointed to a ferry on the other side of the ocean, I asked Tom: "It is your competitor", Tom proudly replied: " I don't have any competitor"! I think it is very cool

Anyway, if you have a chance to do whale watching at Nova Scotia, try Ocean Explorations. Have fun!
